The Several Journeys of Reemus

Posted by Dan Mousavi On May - 29 - 2010

We just got the first Froyo handset with full Flash 10.1 support and I know a lot of you are asking themselves if you really need Flash on a mobile Plattform for gaming.
That’s why I looked around for a halfway decent Flash game to show you in these early stages of the Flash open beta. What I have found was a total surprise to me and after playing the first of four available games, I claim The Several Journeys of Reemus is the best point and click adventure you can find on any Android device ( …that doesn’t run Android 1.6 or lower, of course nothing can touch the classic Lucasarts adventures, but they aren’t available until Scumm gets ported to 2.0 and I’m sure after playing them for decades you want something new, if it’s good).

Alchemy-Chemistry can be so simple

Posted by Dennis Zimpel On May - 27 - 2010

In the free game “Alchemy” you have to create new chemical elements!

You get the four basic elements set (fire, water, earth, air) with which one you can create new elements. With ever-increasing mixing up of them you can find 118 chemical elements. At first this looks very simple, but if you have explored the first easy elements it gets more difficult.

It’s a really simple game principle with tricky combinations but also a huge sense of achievement when you have discovered a new element.

You can get “Alchemy” for free in the Android Market!

A World of Photo-Throw with pictures of you!

Posted by Dennis Zimpel On May - 26 - 2010

I did not know exactly what to expect from “A World of Photo”, because the title sounds mysterious. So I installed this free app to get a closer look. A lot of people in the forums and the comments at the android market find it very funny and cool. In fact, a direct hit!

In short, the goal here is to exchange photos with the whole world, if you wish you can comment and rate them. However, you do that in an ingenious principle: chain mail!
Now some of you are probably already shaking their heads and think “No thanks”, but wait, it really is a highlight on android.

New Augmented Reality Game “7Scenes” will be released soon!

Posted by Dennis Zimpel On May - 26 - 2010

According to a statement by the Android Developer 7Scenes, they’ll bring out a new augmented reality game/app in the second Quarter of 2010.

In this App you have to create a tour which then can be taken by other players. Details are available on their website, there you get a good overview of the operation and use of the App.

We’ve seen augmented reality gaiming already by games like Spec Trek, Ghosts AR or Photo Shoot-The Duel. In this variant of mobile gaming you have to move to a location with the GPS of your phone and look through the camera, at certain points you’ll find zombies, ghosts or something else and fight against them. The player has a specified time, for example, in Spec Trek you have 15 minutes or more, in this time it is your goal to find as many ghosts as possible and hunt them like a Ghostbuster. This is a perfect game genre to get couchpotatoes outside, it can also be great on the bike or inline skates (unless you have to play in a forest or rough terrain) or just play while you walk the dog.

Screens from our example Spec Trek:

This genre has it all, geo-cacher, couch potatoes, sportsmen and dog owners can move their bodies in motion and thereby also have a lot of fun, but above all also get to know their environment better. I’m really looking forward to 7Scenes, an extensive test will follow after release!

Yesterday evening the Nexus One was the first device to get the Froyo upgrade, we shot some Video material from Gameloft’s new game Gangstar before and after the update, so you can compare it’s performance.

We chose one of the new Gameloft titles because they are still missing optimization for the Snapdragon processor and are the only games that performed that badly on Eclair. The game often had lousy fps, even with Froyo you will see the occasional hiccup, but it definately got a lot smoother.

Here is Gangstar running on Eclair, the last mission is present in both videos, so you can compare the performance:
