Delivering a realtime multiplayer online game on a mobile device is not a easy task, before I started playing Pocket Legends I just heard “mobile mmo” and expected another cheap cash-in with ugly graphics, lousy gameplay and even lousier perfomance. I couldn’t have been wronger, since the game proved to be a beautiful and very stable game, that is heavily optimized for mobile touchscreen devices and slow network performance. This truly is a mobile multiplayer game, that is worth your attention.

Last Tuesday Google invited german developers to the MOC in Munich and one session led by Dan Galpin (Google Developer Advocate for Games) was very interesting for Android Game Developers (and high interest gamers). For example did you know that every game could backup the savegames over Google services and no one has done it yet? Or that you can share assets between applications through intents? Even more known services like cloud-to-device messaging haven’t found the way into games yet.
There were a lot of more interesting tidbits and while there wasn’t anything new to report, a lot of the old stuff isn’t commonly known, I didn’t know that widgets can’t be moved to SD.
So to learn more about Android games and the possibilities, check out the talk, I filmed it spontaneous with the Nexus One, so excuse the sound quality and my shaky hand, holding your hand up for 30 minutes is no easy feat, but at least I had the best seat in the entire hall.
Part 4 is especially interesting, where he gives out a Wish List for future Android game features.

A brutal variation of soccer, the game is pretty much the same as Backbreaker Football, but with a nicer finish, where you need to swipe the screen to shoot a goal.

If you are a classic gamer you surely remember the days where you spent hours chasing ghosts to a waka-waka sound in Pac-man, the developer hexage decided to give us a new game, that heavily borrows from the classic, but delivers something fresh with the game mechanic in a beautiful setting. Taking a cue from Pac-Man C.E. the whole game is kept in neon colored graphics, which are underlined by relaxing electro music to create a great atmosphere for the game. Style matters and EVAC has lots of it.
