Penguin X Run

Posted by Dennis Zimpel On December - 23 - 2010

Penguin X Run, brought to you from the developer that did YetiSports, is a accelerometer based game where the player needs to steer his character, one or more penguins, through sensitive and precise tilts of your Android handset until you reach the goal. So you can forget about playing it while lying in bed, because the controls are all about tilt mechanics.

There are obstacles on your way to the goal like bear traps, poisonous flowers or landmines to pull your leg and kill your penguin. Should one of your penguins run into such an obstacle, you need to restart the level, which can be frustrating, a checkpoint system to prevent anger would have been way better for the health of my Android device.

MX Moto

Posted by Dan Mousavi On December - 15 - 2010

The developer Camel Games already brought us a lot of great Android games and are mostly famous for their physics games. Their newest game is a motocross parcour game where you have to balance your rider through obstacles until you reach the goal. After successfully copying game mechanics from other developers for a while, it was just a matter of time, until one of Camel Games slightly altered clones fails to impress. Maybe it’s just me, but in MX Moto I strongly feel that nice physics alone don’t make a great game, because while the game is good enough that I want to recommend it here, it has some problems at the moment that keep it from being a satisfying gaming experience.

20 Top Paid Games for December

Posted by Dan Mousavi On December - 8 - 2010

Here we are again with the 20 best paid games, that were released on the market in the last month. As you can see the quality rises steadily and more and more games get released each month. Just 5 months ago we barely managed to collect 20 games from all of the market, now we have 40 good games released in just a month.
We try to stay on top of all releases, but playtesting so many of them takes time and reviewing them all is impossible without more manpower, even if we focus further just on recommendable games. If you find some game you like and think you got what it takes to write a review about it, just contact us, we are always looking for new writers.

Top Paid:

Advent Rush
A very promising 2d shoot’em up. It looks great and has all the ingredients to be good, from a nice soundtrack to good bullet patterns. It’s just very hard and has no trackball controls, 2 things that will get updated soon according to the developer, then it could be the best shooter on the market.

Ancient Frog
The classic Zen-like puzzle game got ported from the iPhone

Dungeon Hunter is free today

Posted by Dan Mousavi On December - 3 - 2010

Normally we don’t talk about Gameloft games here on Androidpimps, because we don’t care too much about games that aren’t buyable through the market.
But it’s different with free stuff, as long as I don’t need to use a shady payment method I won’t worry about taking my games with me hassle free.
Gameloft has an interesting advent calendar, where you can get something new every day and today they give away Dungeon Hunter on Android.

To get this great game, just download it here. We’ll let you know, when more Android advent gifts are available, Gameloft will give away something every day until Christmas through their Twitter feed.

Angry Birds seasons now available

Posted by Dan Mousavi On December - 1 - 2010

Rovio just released Angry Birds seasons for Android. This version contains 25 Christmas themed levels as well as the 45 Level Halloween edition packaged as a special episode. After the huge success that Angry Birds had on Android, I’m pretty sure this version will be equally popular. Since it is a little bit more difficult, I recommend that new players start with the original.
Just like the first Angry Birds, this one is also available for free on Android (ad supported). In the newsletter Rovio also announced, that they are still working on a version with lighter graphics for weaker handsets and after that they will introduce a payment system to opt-out of advertising.

Pinball Ride

Posted by Dan Mousavi On December - 1 - 2010

Virtual Pinball is a difficult genre to get right. Since 1992, when the first Pinball Dreams was released, a lot of companies tried to get it right, even some big shots like Epic tried to create a pinball table, that is fun to play and Microsoft even bundled one with Windows, but since the glory days of tables like Stones ‘n Bones pretty much all sucked after a while. The only Pinball game that was fun in the last few years was the underrated Pinball FX on 360. Now here comes the first serious Pinball game on Android and I’m happy to report, that it is worth playing.
