Onlive demoed on HTC Flyer & UK Signup

Posted by Dan Mousavi On June - 3 - 2011

The HTC Flyer is a fine tablet device with the focus on the pen input for taking notes, drawing etc. but this tablet has another trick up its sleeve. It is the first tablet, that supports the Onlive gaming service, where your game isn’t running on the actual hardware, but gets streamed over the net. That means your games run on considerable more powerful hardware and it doesn’t matter how fast your device will be in the future, because when it is time to upgrade your specs to play a new game, it just happens by some technicians in a serverfarm and you don’t have to do a thing to have compatibility with the newest games. The only thing that influences your performance is the speed of your internet connection to the nearest Onlive server.
The whole concept sounds intriguing, but we haven’t seen it in action yet in europe, the service is US exclusive at the moment. But europe will have the better infrastructure in the future, because we have a way tighter server network here and not so long distances as they have in the US. It won’t take long now, the UK signups will begin next Tuesday, there’s a countdown to the signup page.
Engadget uploaded a video, showcasing the Onlive service on the Tablet:

Nvidia demonstrated their newest Tegra Chip at Computex, which finally is powerful enough to bring games in the quality of current generation retail console titles to Android. After the Glowbnall demo from a few days ago, today a video surfaced that shows a port of Lost Planet 2, a Unreal Tournament 3 like testlevel from the Unreal Development Kit and the Glowball demo on real hardware. It’s great to see effects like cloth animation and dynamic lightning on Android and shows the huge leap in graphics.
No word yet on when the first hardware will be available, but they could come at the end of the year with a healthy dose of Ice cream sandwich.

Tegra Games now playable on non Tegra devices

Posted by Dan Mousavi On May - 24 - 2011

There is a new tool out called Chainfire 3D, which is an intermediary OpenGL driver, that hooks into your rooted OpenGL ES 2.0 capable phone (pretty much every phone with over 1Ghz).
These drivers are much faster than the normal ones and make even Tegra 2 games playable on older devices.
Lars Hacker was kind enough to test this out for us and here is a video of him playing Samurai Vengeance II and Pinball HD on a Nexus One.

If you want to try them out yourself, you can find more information at the source at XDA

All Gamevil games available for 0,99$

Posted by Dan Mousavi On May - 20 - 2011

Gamevil is one of the top adresses when it comes to 2D games on Android, they are mostly famous for the popular action rpg Zenonia, but they have a lot of other cool games and now you can get all their releases for under a dollar.
I’m not so sure what the reason is, but if I would guess, it could be because they just had a huge hit on the iPhone with their new game Air Penguin, which will come to Android soon. The game reached #1 in the paid apps section in the USA, France, Germany and Netherlands and and brought them over 1 Million in revenue in the first 30 days. No matter what’s the reason, if you held out on some of their games (like I did with Zenonia 2 and Illusia, because I already have too much unfinished 50+ hour grinder installed at the moment), now is the perfect time to get them.
